FEBRUARY IS BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Let’s talk about Black Health! African-American women experience more disease, disability, and early death than any other minority group. While many of the diseases are chronic, they can also be prevented. Access to health care insurance decreases the ability to receive treatment early on, especially in cases of breast and cervical cancers. High blood pressure is among the highest in the world for African Americans, developing earlier and showing no symptoms.
Other prevalent diseases affecting all cultures are diabetes, heart disease, stroke high cholesterol, smoking and obesity. Prevention is the key! Take charge of your personal health and seek the health care you need. Knowing your risks gives you power!
See a doctor regularly and ask questions to fully understand your health needs. Health issues left untreated become worse and recovery is longer. Diet and exercise cannot be stressed enough in assisting to lower cholesterol, high blood pressure and heart disease, but don’t ignore reducing your sodium intake, instead use herbs, stop smoking and limit your intake of processed foods.
A “healthy body” must coexist with a “health mind!” The body doesn’t exist on medication and supplements alone! Lowering the stress levels in your life is the greatest health benefit for the body. Don’t forget, here at Complete Health, we are a totally committed to “complete health!” Check out our event calendar – we offer Prana and Reiki seminars and Yoga classes.
