This month I am going to cover a topic very near to my heart; massage. Massages are relaxing; cleansing; detoxifying and yes even energizing. Massages are used to help treat many ailments ranging from arthritis; to stress; to multiple sclerosis and injuries. Human touch is essential to our feeling of well-being. Let’s discuss the different types of massages.
First remember there are different levels of intensity soft; medium; or deep tissue. You should always work with your masseuse closely as far as your pressure is concerned; a message should not hurt. Now let’s explore the different types!
Swedish massage: This is a whole-body therapeutic massage designed to relax the muscles and joints. Often aromatherapy can be added to your massage through the use of essential oils. Popular oils include lavender; sandalwood; patchouli; and rosemary. With Swedish massage the intensity of the massage is entirely your choice. I am mellow just writing about it!
Deep Tissue massage: This massage is beneficial to relieve chronically tight muscles and muscles under continual stress and strain. The therapist works across the grain of the muscles; and targets deeper layers with more pressure. It is common to be sore for a day or two after this treatment.
Hot Stone: This technique utilizes heated stones placed strategically on the body to loosen tight muscles and balance energy centers. If done correctly it should be a very relaxing experience; however if the stones are too hot; make sure to let your therapist know. Also it’s a good idea to make sure your therapist is certified to do hot stone.
Shiatsu massage: This Japanese bodywork technique utilizes localized finger pressure rhythmically on across the acupuncture meridians. Shiatsu is very relaxing even the though the pressure level is firm; also usually no soreness results! Total balance and relaxation!
So I’ve covered just a few techniques. You can find so many of the aromatherapy oils here at Complete Health Store! Let us be your laid back headquarter; and watch for our upcoming Reiki Seminar on August 23rd! It’s free and it’s great!
